:: GREETINGS to all and the newcomers to this list. We'd like to introduce ourselves. George and Rita Williams, who founded this ministry, were Mormons (Temple Mormons part of the time) for 20 years. We prayed to God in 1992 to allow us to do a ministry speaking out against Scientology. Six months later God led us to the truth: out of the cult of Mormonism. We did not know at the time we were in a cult. No-one had witnessed to us in 20 years.
The Holy Spirit brought us to information about all the cults and the present development of the New World Order. We began bringing our research to you. Because all the research was already done, we decided to build a library within Cephas Ministry.
We are fundamental Bible students and have left all worldly organizations.
The focus of these newsletters is to prove why we had to leave the world system. We are called 'Watchmen on the Wall' which God always had during the Old / New Testament Times.
To understand what is happening, one has to know the Bible to compare notes.
The first section is about the church. The news about churches is unedited unless indicated by Ednotes. The church as we knew it, is undergoing disintegration. This began on a fast track in the early nineteen sixties when the Catholic Church produced liberal Vatican II to replace Vatican I.
The trend since then has been ecumenical which is truly what the word 'Catholicism' means: a universal religion all inclusive and multicultural. The Bible calls for a final church which doesn't resemble what Jesus taught. The Word of God has undergone many changes to fit the present mode. The Bible calls for a falling away from the truth before Jesus comes back for His Bride, the true believers called 'Ekklesia.' Our newsletters prove this fact and prove that the Bible is true from beginning to end.
The second section is about globalism where we bring your attention to the social, political and global trend to prove that we are moving to closure of the times of the Gentiles.
The third section compliments End Time teachings with what is happening in Israel. We describe and watch for signs of the coming Tribulation to confirm that we are moving into that space and time.
Watchmen on the wall do not solicit memberships. We have an email group that gets information when we upload new information and a newsletter whenever it is possible time wise. We love the Lord with all our hearts and minds and we love all people God has created but especially those who love our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. THE WORLD'S LARGEST CHURCH Dave Cloud writes: "On my first Sunday morning in Korea I visited "the largest church in the world," the Yoido Full Gospel Church. They claim that they have 850,000 members, but I believe that is a vast exaggeration. They have 7 services on Sunday, and the auditorium seats about 14,000. It was full the two services I attended, but even so, that is not anything like 850,000 -- even adding the other places where they have services. It is a charismatic church and they have a lot of false doctrine, which is very sad, considering the vast number of people that they are leading astray. The pastor, David Yonggi Cho, is very popular around the world. He teaches that God promises healing and prosperity for every believer. In fact, he considers this as part of the gospel. The church's web site presents a "five fold gospel" -- the gospel of regeneration, the gospel of the fullness of the Holy Spirit, the gospel of divine healing, the gospel of blessing, and the gospel of the advent. The Yoido Church web site says, "Full Gospel faith not only accepts the Gospel of salvation which Christ made complete as He was resurrected from the dead, but also believes in the release from physical illness and salvation for the cursed life." By adding to the one true gospel of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, these churches are preaching a false gospel. In 1 Cor. 15:1-4, Paul clearly stated the gospel that he preached, and it is the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ for our sins. Period. Paul warned that if someone adds to or changes this gospel, they are cursed of God (Galatians 1). These are fearful words.
The promise of health and prosperity is one reason, of course, why that church is so popular.
The Yoido Full Gospel Church's web site says that 279 of the 527 pastors are women. This is in direct disobedience to 1 Timothy 2. [ David Cloud - http://www.wayoflife.org ]

HARVESTING POVERTY Welfare Reform for Farmers - The New York Times, November 10, 2003 - A great rift is opening in America's once-impregnable farm lobby. It is a gap between those forms of agriculture that can prosper on their own and the ones that must be perpetually propped up by huge subsidies. This is a critical development if this country is ever going to control the costs of its farm programs and deal fairly with poor countries that want their chance to prosper from global trade. The United States has to acknowledge that it can no longer continue to support hopelessly unprofitable agricultural enterprises, even if they are in states represented by powerful members of Congress.
This new schism shows up in the debate over proposals to cap the amounts individual farmers can receive in government aid. Right now, some of the nation's wealthiest welfare recipients are farmers "earning" taxpayer subsidies in the high six figures, or more. Senator Charles Grassley, the chairman of the Finance Committee and an Iowa farmer, has long been eager to impose new limits. Unfortunately, he was unable to get the Senate to debate an amendment to the Department of Agriculture's annual funding legislation last week that would set a new cap on the overall amount farmers can obtain in federal subsidies. Many Southern senators were eager to avoid the issue.

FRANCE DEBATES PLACE OF RELIGION IN SOCIETY Paris (ENI). As a 1905 French law separating church and state approaches its centenary, and amidst current difficulties within French society in accepting and integrating Islam, a major debate has broken out in France on the place of religions in public life. The debate was triggered by a fierce polemic - widely covered in the media - about whether female Muslim students may wear the Islamic veil to school. French President Jacques Chirac appointed a commission in July to draw up proposals by the end of the year to deal with the situation. [ENI-11-07-2003]

----- PRESIDENT BUSH AGAIN PRAISES ISLAM.
November 7, 2003 (David W. Cloud, WayofLife.org) President George Bush claims to be a born again Christian, but his frequent praise for the false religion of Islam is contrary to the Bible that he professes to believe. In his remarks to a group of Muslim leaders at the White House on October 28, President Bush spoke of the "Holy Koran" and described it as "God's word." He said, "Islam is a religion that brings hope and comfort." In reality, it offers a false hope that brings eternal destruction. President Bush allowed a Muslim cleric to lead him in prayer, even though he should know that prayers are not accepted by Almighty God except through Jesus Christ, the very Jesus Christ that is denied by Islam. From a political viewpoint, George Bush, Jr., is many times better than the alternative that we were presented with in presidential election of 2000, but he is doing a dangerous thing by promoting the idea that Islam is a peaceful, godly religion and by decrying those who are exposing Islam for what it is. "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them" (Isaiah 8:20).

PROMISE KEEPERS GET A NEW HEAD Thomas Fortson, Jr., the newly appointed head of Promise Keepers, is a member of a Southern Baptist congregation (Riverside Baptist in Denver). Founding president Bill McCartney resigned effective October 1. The widespread Southern Baptist support for Promise Keepers is a loud testimony to the deep spiritual compromise that permeates the Convention in spite of the 'conservative renaissance.' Promise Keepers has promoted the most radical form of ecumenical unity. Promise Number Six states, 'A Promise Keeper is committed to reaching beyond ANY 'DENOMINATIONAL BARRIERS to demonstrate the power of biblical unity.' The official Promise Keepers literature does not list any exceptions to its call for reaching beyond denominational barriers. Catholic priest John Salazar spoke at a PK meeting in Plainview, Texas, in December 1995. That same year, the PK field representative for the upper Midwest was a Roman Catholic. According to the December 1995 issue of the Roman Catholic publication New Covenant, a Promise Keepers group was being formed that year in a Catholic parish in Tallahassee, Florida. In 1996, PK representatives Dale Schlafer and Glenn Wagner spoke at the Roman Catholic Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio, a school that promotes prayers to Mary. Roman Catholic Mike Timmis was one of the directors of Promise Keepers for a couple of years. Addressing 40,000 ministers at the 1996 Atlanta Clergy Conference, Bill McCartney said: 'No such meeting was held in the past 400 years, and IT IS EXCITING TO SEE THE DENOMINATIONAL BARRIERS COME DOWN AS WE HAVE PROTESTANTS AND ROMAN CATHOLICS HERE TOGETHER. MALAWI CHURCHES DISTRIBUTE DRUGS CONDOMS T CHECK SPREAD OF HIB/AIDS Blantyre (ENI). The Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) has been distributing a drug that reduces the risk of pregnant, HIV-positive women transmitting the virus to their children at birth. Mothers in the northern region of Livingstonia can receive an anti-retroviral drug called Nevirapine at the church's Ekwendeni mission hospital, thereby avoiding the long trek to Lilongwe, the country's capital, in central Malawi, to find the drug. And although the use of condoms as a method of checking the spread of the AIDS pandemic remains controversial for some churches, several denominations have started distributing them to married couples [ENI-11-04-03]

MAJOR INCREASE IN PROFANITY ON TV
Foul language on television shows has increased dramatically on nearly every network and time slot-including the so-called "Family Hour" from 8 to 9 p.m. (10/24 Sword of the Lord). Foul language, including curses or intensives, offensive epithets, scatological language, sexually suggestive or indecent language, and censored language increased by 94.8 percent during the Family Hour between 1998 and 2002. MOTHER TERESA'S CATHOLICISM NOT ENOUGH
Pope John Paul II has given high priority to making Mother Teresa a saint, and blessed her Oct. 19 in a beatification and Mass attended by 300,000. But faith in Jesus Christ alone makes one a saint. If you're not a saint before death, you can't become one after death. Letters reveal Mother Teresa's inner struggle and feelings of abandonment by God. (11/3 Chr. News) She wrote: "I want God with all the power of my soul - and yet between us there is terrible separation." And again: "Heaven from every side is closed." And her sad lament from the heart: "I feel just that terrible pain of loss, of God not wanting me, of God not being God, of God not really existing." RICK WARREN'S 40-DAY PLAN FOR GOD'S PURPOSE
Rick Warren's Saddleback Church (Calif.) is one of the nation's largest with 17,000 members. His latest book Purpose-Driven Life lays out a step-by-step 40-day plan to discover God's purpose for one's life. In another book he gives 10 essentials for a church to keep on growing: One of these: You should change the primary role of the pastor from minister to leader. He says you can grow a church to 300 with pastoral/ministry skills, but for it to grow beyond 300 will require leadership skills. Warren wanted his church built around unbelievers and thus uses worldly methods to build his church. But methods are important. I Cor. 3:10 warns: "But let every man take heed how he builds [on the foundation of Christ.]." Warren uses rock music, casual dress, etc., and Southern Baptists and other new evangelicals are climbing aboard his Purpose bandwagon in droves. STANLEY 'CLARIFIES' STANCE ON FEMALE PASTORS
Popular Bible teacher and former Southern Baptist president Dr. Charles Stanley ridicules the SBC's mandate that wives should submit to their husbands and he doesn't support its ban on female pastors (10/30 Ala. Bapt.). He said he was led to Christ by a quiet female evangelist, not by a fiery female pastor (see 7/15/00 CC), and added, "You just can't draw the line and say, "You can't do so-and-so." [Note: After a Texas paper reported that Stanley "disagrees" with the 2000 Baptist Faith & Message, he told Baptist Press (11/6 Ala. Baptist) that he is "absolutely" supportive of the BF&M and its stances on the role of women, but thinks a clarifying amendment was needed. ACCC RESOLUTION ON ROBERT SCHULLER & NAE
Robert Schuller, pastor of the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA, and the number one TV preacher watched on hundreds of stations in over 180 countries with an audience of over 20 million, will be a speaker at the 62nd annual meeting of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) in Colorado Springs, in March of 2004. Mr. Schuller's involvement further demonstrates the harmfully inclusive policy of the NAE. Over the years the organization has reached out to many speakers for its programs, but this year is different. Robert Schuller is a false prophet, a wolf in sheep's clothing! His erroneous definition of sin as "anything that robs myself or another human being of his or her self-esteem" has led him to deny and distort the Gospel of grace. Man's greatest need is not self-esteem, but regeneration. Our Lord said: "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves" (Matt. 7:15). Schuller's Possibility Thinking is no different than Norman Vincent Peale's Positive Thinking - both are error (II Pet. 2:1, I Jn. 4:1)! ... We believe salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, and in Christ alone! We further reaffirm our commitment to Biblical separation from apostasy (Schuller) and from those who compromise with apostasy (NAE). SALVATION ARMY SHELTER CHARGES FAMILIES TO STAY
AP - 9.29.03 - LOUISVILLE, Ky., Sept. 28 (AP) — The city's Salvation Army chapter is charging homeless families $5 a night if they stay at its downtown shelter for more than a week, a change that has angered some advocates for the homeless. The Louisville organization started the fee this month as an incentive to pull people out of homelessness, said Maj. John Tolan, the agency's director of social services. Some people have been staying for months at the shelter, Major Tolan said.

GLOBAL CHURCH AND STATE ARE ONE Problems are not getting solved in foreign countries. In example American charities are doing the government's work in Africa. They trade food for people to come to church and become believers. The charitable initiative most likely is an outgrowth of what has been happening in third world countries. It is based on volunteers doing the work for free. Overseas they get lots of volunteers to do the job just to eat and maybe even come to the US. In the Mormon church many have come with the help of the church because they were approached by Mormon missionary to accept their doctrines with the promise of help. - 4.17.03 - Haiti recognizes Voodoo religion as national religion. The president, a former Catholic Priest, said it is an ancestral part of their national identity. That is how they link humans with the divine. Americans wanted to deliver them and placed a dictator to lead Haitians and today they are worse off than ever. - Head of the Lutherans in Europe agreed to unity in Africa with Tutu. ECUMENISM
Cecil Stewart of www.ccneurope.org.uk said that all denominations should be united. He called for that kind of unity and calls it unity in spirit. He said that Satan loves division and said that we lose power if we are divided. We have to help people to become their potential. He functions from Jacksonville, Florida. In contrast to this preacher Jesus said the following: Matthew 13:30 "Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn." In other words we know that the many denominations are not of the same spirit because denominations include various cults who claim they have the same Jesus when in fact their Jesus is a different Jesus. That indicates that wheat and tares have been growing together under the title "church". Now, which includes the last twenty years, due to Watchmen on the wall blowing their trumpet, the wheat and tares are being separated. If they are reading their Bible, true believers are realizing that a different spirit entered their ranks. The verse Jesus gave us for the harvest, is in effect and the tares are being bundled to be burned. The call for unity of all denominations is a call to tares who do not know their Bible. ISLAM In the Koran, Sirah 5:20, Allah promises the land to Israel not Muslims. Sirah 17: 104 Jews were told to inhabit the land Allah promised to Israel. - Simultaneously with the world's greatest vulcano in Krakatoa is called "The Day the World Exploded: August 27, 1883. It happened in Indonesia, in Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra. The vulcano blew up part of the island and changed the configuration of the strait. The accompanying tidal wave cause great destruction and loss of life. So great was the volume of ashes and lava poured out that new islands were formed, and debris was scattered across the Indian Ocean as far as Madagascar. - 4.10.03 - Simon Winchester called the eruption the Dragon. The god of the people who were affected was the earth itself, mother nature. They assumed that their god was angry and in turn caused anger in worshippers of this god. With the vulcano came the eruption of the Islamic believers who felt inspired by Allah to slice non-believers who are infidels to them. Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God, who also holds the Melchezidek Priesthood which has the power to grant eternal life in heaven, while Mohammed's body is in a grave waiting to be resurrected at the end of the Millennium to be judged at the Great White Throne judgment which determines who goes to hell and why. - We received a letter from a man in prison and communicated for months with him. Since we have a time problem and discovered that he had a circle of people who were helping him maintain, we told him that we had to stop writing. He wrote one last letter and stopped writing. Beginning with the second chapter he wrote: "Our 14th Amendment of the Constitution guarantees the equal protection of every individual in the U.S.A. but as of the 9-11 incident, the 14th Amendment has become shattered. I will expose an enemy that hides behind the U.S.A.'s Constitution as a first "Amendment Right" as a smokescreen dressed in a religious garb; this religion is Islam. The religion of Islam is a group that promotes by force, Hadith 2.193, 2.256. Also women are second class citizens, Hadith 3.826, 2.541, 7.30.33, Sura 4:11m 3:14. Anyone who does not believe in Allah, such as Jews, Christians, are called infidels, "non believers of Islam" is an automatic place in paradise heaven, this 9-11 incident was called a Holy Jihad, "A Holy War against non Muslims, Hadith 1.35, 8.73.1, 9.93.519, 4.73, Surah 3:195, - 9:29. This book called the "Koran" and the "Hadith" is the guide book to all devout Muslims. A devout Muslim will follow his or her word "If" they are true followers for the cause of Islam, such as the followers that died on 9-11 for their Holy Jihad calling. This book and teachings floods Texas prison system, It also puts Texas inmates and Texas prison officials in jeopardy for the cause of Islam. A true Muslim believer will kill for the cause of their eternal destiny, and a Holy Jihad is an order by Allah and Muhammad in the Koran and Hadith. This book is in the hand of inmates in Texas prison. The Quran teaches anti-Semitism, assassinations on all non Muslims. This Holy Jihad is murder, but Muslims call it a martyr's Holy War for the cause of Allah. This book is in the hand of inmates in a very serious time, many inmates have nothing to loose for the cause of murder which Islam teaches. The courts of America "must" without delay bring this anti-Semitism racist religion before the legislatures of America to do away with the Koran in American schools and prisons. Every free, law abiding citizen in America is in danger of Kamikaze Muslims who are not afraid of death in exchange of paradise heaven according to the teachings of Muhammad. The teachings of the Koran and the Hadith show beyond a shadow of a doubt that a woman is discriminated against, less in value of a man, two women equal one man's word, last but least, Mohammad said he saw hell and the majority were women. This is documented fact in the Koran and Hadith. We as American people love our freedom, we love our mothers, we have ladies in the prison system, schools, Congress, in the Legislative Branch, etc., The Muslim religion threatens the life of the female of America. I ask that this letter be printed and made a public awareness to [expose] this murderous false cult which hides behind our First Amendment Right to act out their racist assassinations in the name of Allah. A VERY DIFFICULT READ, April 7, 2003 - Reviewer: A reader from Salt Lake City, Ut United States I found this book to be a very difficult read. The style of writing just does not flow well, and that is the least of my complaints. This book seems to be more about the history of Jordan, and very little to do with Noor herself.
I was a little surprised at the uncalled for pot shots at the United States. She was born and raised an American. I understand she has a roll to play as a public figure, and I felt she was still playing that roll as a writer. I didn't feel that the book was very honestly written.
In the end I think the book is more about her being a CHEERLEADER for the Arab cause, and her attempts to persuade people to see them as the victims in the Mideast, and for most of us that is to hard a sell. Anyone who knows anything about the Mideast conflict, can see the obvious bias in this book, with regards to facts and events involving the Middle East.

"British troops have been flown home from Iraq as casualties of the desert heat ... The Ministry of Defence admitted today its soldiers are falling "at the rate of three a day" from temperature-related problems ... down at the rate of 10 a day from heat exhaustion."
Suspecting that we were seeing just the tiny tip of the proverbial iceberg, I sent these stories to my medical source, a doctor in a foreign army, asking for an expert opinion as to what is truly going on in Iraq, and how seriously this situation could get. After several emails back and forth, this doctor called me from overseas. The news was shocking, but it did tie into the Illuminati ultimate plan as we have been teaching.
The body of every soldier in Iraq is now being assaulted by the following elements:
1. Searing heat between 120-150° - This tremendous heat will not relent until mid-October 2. Local biting insects that deliver a toxic pathogen with which the native Iraqis have to contend daily 3. A cocktail of vaccines that were administered prior to landing in Iraq. As in Gulf War I, these vaccines are highly toxic 4. Exposure to Depleted Uranium in the air, in the water in some areas, and in the dust everywhere. As Amy Worthington states in her article in The Idaho Observer, "The US and British troops are the walking dead." 5. Unknown and unpredictable mutations of physical maladies caused by the above combination of toxic elements In the daily campaign in Iraq, soldiers are breathing in the toxic Depleted Uranium, and many of them are being constantly bitten by the local insects. These two elements join the toxic vaccine already in the body. Because of the unrelenting, searing heat, nearly every soldier is dehydrated to some degree, thus allowing this deadly combination of toxins to build up to dangerously concentrated levels. Further, this doctor related how American scientists keeping watch over the radioactive poisoning of the Pacific islands at which France and the United States conducted nuclear tests several decades ago, are constantly finding mutated organisms that have never been identified before! Uranium poisoning in our soldiers is very likely mutating with these other elements to create strange and deadly organisms for which the soldiers have not been prepared to face.
The way in which these five elements combine to make the soldier sick, or to kill him, will vary widely with each soldier. The age of the soldier plays a part, as does the individual genetic code, as does the health of the immune system. Thus, soldiers will be getting sick at various points along the time spectrum. Further, the exact cause of death will vary so widely that it will be difficult to prove any single cause. Some soldiers will die of pneumonia, some of internal organ meltdown, some of apparent heart attack, and some will die of maladies perhaps not yet seen in medical science.
This doctor felt strongly that our government officials knew exactly that this scenario would develop, and deliberately bypassed the cool time of the year -- November to February -- so that our troops would be fighting a guerrilla war during the searing heat time of year. This high heat accelerates the process of getting sick tremendously. If our soldiers are already dying and/or getting sick at the rate of 5 per day, how long will it take to reach 50 per day, and then 100? At which point will the pressure build up about the true situation so that the news cannot be suppressed any longer? The situation facing our troops in Iraq is simply unprecedented!

THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE BUT IT'S CLASSIFIED
Published: September 27, 2003 - The corners of the Internet frequented by fans of "X-Files" and alien-creature sightings were abuzz last week when President Bush extended for another year the total secrecy of Area 51, a large Air Force base in the Nevada desert.
Since the base was established in 1954 to test the U-2 spy plane, its cloaked existence has fueled speculation that it is used for something else: the storage and study of captured extraterrestrials and their spacecraft, including those said to have landed in Roswell, N.M. A 1997 Air Force report saying there were no captured aliens served only to convince the faithful that there must have been.
But if the site stokes distrust, it should be for something more down to earth. Mr. Bush's order effectively lets the Air Force flout environmental laws without a public accounting. That is understandably upsetting to a group of former workers and two widows represented by Jonathan Turley, a George Washington University law professor who filed suit in 1994, claiming that exposure to toxic materials illegally burned on the grounds had caused gruesome skin rashes and respiratory ailments.
The secrecy surrounding Area 51 has been obsessive, even for the military, which does not like to acknowledge its existence, much less whether officers illegally handled hazardous waste. In 1995, in response to the suit, President Bill Clinton issued the first annual exemption to protect the military from having to make disclosures.
While armed patrols and ominous signs warning of "deadly force" isolate Area 51, situated about 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas, foreign satellite photos of buildings and of a runway several miles long hint at its uses. Rather than performing alien autopsies, the Air Force is more likely to be using the site to test new military hardware. Few would disagree that such work deserves to be classified, but it should not give the government a pass to break the law or to abuse the basic rights of its workers.

PLUMSTED, N.J. April 21 — The biggest security breach in recent memory in this small central New Jersey school district happened when a parent forgot to sign in at the office before delivering cupcakes to a child's classroom.So it was somewhat of a surprise when the Plumsted district's three schools became the test site for a cutting-edge eye recognition security system designed to keep out strangers."We're an appealing test site because we are a small community where everybody knows everybody," said Michael Dean, the schools' technology coordinator. "We're taking a rural town and asking, `What is John Q. Public's perception of this technology?
What is people's comfort level is this easy to use?'"The iris scanning technology will be used to identify employees and those authorized to pick up children in the 1,800-student district. Anyone else will have to show ID before being allowed in. Students themselves will never been screened.In the wake of shootings and child abductions, schools nationwide have been taking steps to tighten security, from installing metal detectors and video cameras to hiring extra guards.But iris scanning has never been used in a school, according to Lina Page, director of marketing for Iridian Technologies. The company holds patents on the iris recognition software being used here.Iris recognition systems use a video camera to record the colored ring around the eye's pupil.
More accurate than fingerprints and other biometric markers, iris scanning is considered a nearly foolproof way of identifying people because markings in the iris are unique to each person and do not change as people age.Plumsted was among some 400 school districts that applied for a grant from the Justice Department for the iris recognition technology. The federal agency is building a database on school security and is using Plumsted as its first data collection."The unique thing about our grant is we picked a technology that no one else was doing," said Phil Meara, assistant schools superintendent.The technology has a wide range of applications. Officials at the Charlotte, N.C., airport recently installed iris recognition systems to identify employees, pilots and flight attendants. And United Nations workers have used it to keep track of Afghani refugees and prevent them from claiming more than their share of aid packages.Biometrics expert Paul Robertson of TruSecure Corp. in Herndon, Va., said he sees potential benefit in the iris scanning system but questions if it's the best technology for controlling entry to schools.He cited privacy concerns on behalf of people whose personal data is stored in the schools' system and cautioned against overreliance on a single technology.
More than 300 parents and nearly all the district's teachers and staff volunteered for Plumsted's two-month pilot project that began earlier this month. Pictures were taken of their eyes, and the images were stored in a computer database.If the iris image in the database matches that of the person seeking entry to the school, the school door automatically unlocks. Members of the project's control group, meanwhile, must show identification and be buzzed into the school by a staffer.Wendy Arzt, whose two daughters attend New Egypt Elementary School, lauded the technology as noninvasive and easy to use.
"We're fortunate to live in a small, safe town. ----- SCHOOL VIOLENCE DATA UNDER A CLOUD IN HOUSTON Michael Stravato for The New York Times November 7, 2003, by Sam Dillon Houston, Texas Oct. 31 2003 - It was one of the most unforgettable of schoolhouse crimes: a disabled 17-year-old student was shoved into a boys' bathroom in her wheelchair by a classmate at Yates High School here, dragged to the floor and raped. Her attacker was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Yet the Houston Independent School District did not include that rape, committed two years ago, when it came time to report the school year's campus crimes to the state as required by Texas law. And that is not the only school crime that appears to have been airbrushed from the official record. On Oct. 3, 2000, a boy named Joseph Hamilton was "stomped and beaten" by another student in the cafeteria of Williams Middle School and was left injured on the floor, according to a school district memorandum, but the assault went unreported to Texas authorities. Last April, a 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest by another student at Washington High School; that attack was not reported, either. In the last four school years, the Houston district's own police, who patrol its 80 middle and high schools, have entered 3,091 assaults into a database that is shared with the Houston city police but not with the Texas Education Agency in Austin. In the same period, the Houston district itself has listed just 761 schoolhouse assaults on its annual disciplinary summaries sent to Austin. That means that the school authorities either have not reported or have reclassified 2,330 incidents described as assaults by the district's police.

COURT BLOCKS NEW STATUTE THAT LIMITS ABORTIONS The New York Times, November 7, 2003 - Federal judge in Manhattan blocked the government's new ban on a type of abortion yesterday, granting a temporary restraining order to a network of abortion providers that challenged the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act as unconstitutional just moments after President Bush signed it into law on Wednesday. The ruling is expected to have national implications because the group that filed the lawsuit, the National Abortion Federation, has clinics in almost every state and says it performs half of the abortions done nationwide. In addition to the network, seven individual doctors joined the suit, which was brought with the assistance of the American Civil Liberties Union. The decision follows a similar ruling from a federal district judge in Lincoln, Neb., that was the first to bar the law from taking effect. But that order was limited, applying only to the four doctors who brought the lawsuit. In contrast, the temporary restraining order signed yesterday may have a sweeping effect because though it, too, applies only to the people who brought the suit, the network has 350 clinics in 47 states. The group says it treats about 700,000 women a year. The decision was handed down by Judge Richard Conway Casey of Federal District Court in Manhattan, who wrote in a three-page order that the network had proved that it would suffer irreparable harm without an order blocking enforcement of the new law. Judge Casey also said the network would be likely to succeed in a lawsuit on the merits of their case. The decision to issue a restraining order stemmed from the act's failure to allow exemptions for abortions when a woman's health is at risk. In the order, Judge Casey wrote that the government acknowledged at a hearing on Wednesday that there was disagreement within the medical community as to whether the procedure covered by the act is ever necessary to protect a woman's health.

We live in a six year old housing project which is run by the federal and state government. They set all the rules and people have to have permission from them for things that they wish to do. The credit card debt has climbed to $700 billion credit card debt by consumers. They have found serious problems in deceptive credit card counseling. They are nonprofit firms charging high fees which do not get to the creditors. They invariably cause higher interest rates due to refinancing. A person maxed out on credit card debt could owe as much as $60,000.00 and have no hope of recovering. If credit card counseling has ever been done it shows up in the credit report.

RUPERT MURDOCH ASSETS ARE STAGGERING WANTS MORE, 'CONTROL OF THE MEDIA' THAT IS Fox News is owned by Rupert Murdoch. His news corporation ownership is staggering and he is the Chairman and CEO. He was trying to merge with DirectTV and Echo Star Satellite Corporations to cut out their competition. The House Judiciary Committee interrogated Murdoch and Chairman of the FCC, Michael Powell, son of Colin Powell, who runs the FCC and others who are involved in broadcasting. The present rules ask for no more than 35% to 45% ownership to preserve the free market. It has far exceeded the limit and is now at 70% which wants to expand to 90%. It is an enormous transformation. The question is why now? There are no rules in digital transmission. Implications were that we were about to lose free press stated a Seattle Times publisher. Prices will skyrocket and capitalism will crowd out civic issues. Wallstreet drives conglomorates. Freedom of the press is an endangered species.
One issue discussed was that Fox News Broadcasting has the right to pull the program after three disagreements with a Fox affiliate, in example if Fox does not approve programming three times, the affiliate is pulled, which is part of the network agreement. 90 % of television is owned by four companies which relates to 189 out of 200 stations in New York. Frank Blethen of the Seattle Times stated that the last 20 years proves that democracy is disappearing due to controlled media which is a sad day for America. A 70 year statute was to be undone very quickly. 98% of the public were against changing the rules. There were no hearings at the FCC, no meetings and this was the last barrier against unfettered ownership. The big company wants to be the biggest going from 45% to 90% ownership of the entire system. The process was going on behind closed doors. 80% of the public were not informed about this development. The FCC had 20,000 responses against permission.

Exactly and depressingly as predicted, the Republican majority of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)--Chairman Michael Powell, Kathleen Q. Abernathy and Kevin J. Martin--have voted to trash long-standing limits on media ownership in ways that will hugely benefit, among others, rich Republicans.
Relaxing the rules that prohibit a single entity from controlling too large a percentage of American media will allow corporations that are already too big to become much bigger--also more powerful and more oblivious to the common good. Restrictions on how many TV and radio stations and newspapers one company can own, even in the same city, have been radically reduced.
The changes are such a threat to First Amendment freedoms that even some Republicans on Capitol Hill are expected to join in a movement to block them by congressional vote. For now, Powell has gotten his way.
A diversity of voices--voices with the ability to be heard--is integral to the health and maintenance of a democracy. Powell claims that the existence of hundreds of channels on cable and satellite systems proves there's diversity aplenty. But that "diversity" is a hoax if five fat companies own all those channels.
Unless Congress acts, unless people wise up and rise up, they'll discover that America's "marketplace of ideas" is owned and controlled by only a handful of appallingly powerful and interdependent corporations.
In recent months, Powell alienated many in Washington not just by insisting that the rules be changed, but also by pushing the changes through with little debate, great haste and considerable secrecy.
"I'm opposed to the changes," says Barry Diller, chairman of USA Interactive and a media mogul himself, "but I'm much more upset that this has not produced enough conversation and dialogue. The way Michael Powell has gone about it is to hide the issue as much as possible, organizing it to avoid debate and hearings, and getting it done largely under the cover of night."
Diller says he doesn't understand why Powell and his supporters refused to stop even for a brief 30-day period to give the public a chance to comment on the proposals. "Why are they so afraid of a mere pause?" Diller asked. "It's not like there's a bridge on fire."
Jeff Chester, executive director of the Center for Digital Democracy, says Powell's behavior has been deplorable: "If Saddam Hussein had stayed in business, Powell might have made a great minister of information."
Powell's motive can't have anything to do with "the public interest, convenience and necessity" that the FCC is mandated to safeguard. It's about corporate interest, convenience and necessity instead. Powell, the ambitious son of Secretary of State Colin Powell, apparently thinks this crusade on behalf of corporate America will enhance his own political future and that he will be rewarded with a Cabinet post, maybe attorney general, if there is a second George W. Bush administration.
Unlike the FCC itself, the informal coalition opposing the changes was not drawn along partisan political lines. The conservative National Rifle Association is among the groups that objected to the changes, and conservative columnist William Safire has called Powell's move a "power grab." In a May 22 column, Safire blasted the FCC for its refusal to hold ample public hearings on "the most controversial decision in its history."
Ted Turner, one of the most influential communications entrepreneurs in American history, wrote in guest column for The Washington Post claiming that if Powell's rules favoring big business had been in place in 1980, "it would have been virtually impossible for me ... to launch CNN."
If there is one public figure more than any other that symbolizes media greed and the lust for power, as well as profit, that figure is Rupert Murdoch, the megalomaniac Australian with an insatiable lust for broadcast and cable properties. Murdoch's support of the Bush administration has been rewarded over and over by fabulous favors from his friends in Washington. When Murdoch decided he wanted to add DirecTV, America's biggest satellite service, to his global holdings, the Bush administration made sure that existing roadblocks to the takeover were removed, and Murdoch got his way.
Lifting the limits on how many American households that one company's TV stations can reach was the next item on Murdoch's wish list, wrote Ken Auletta recently in The New Yorker. And on June 2, that wish was granted by the FCC.

FCC Rejects EchoStar-DirecTV Merger The FCC ruled that the proposed merger of EchoStar and Hughes would eliminate an existing competitor in every market, create the potential for higher prices and lower service quality, and negatively impact future innovation. Citing a potential loss of competition in the pay-TV market, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Thursday rejected the proposed merger between satellite television providers EchoStar Communications and Hughes Electronics, a subsidiary of General Motors.
Under terms of the deal, initially valued at US$26 billion, EchoStar would purchase Hughes, combining EchoStar's DISH service with Hughes' DirecTV offering to create the second largest pay television company in the United States, with some 17 million subscribers.
Creating a Monopoly
The FCC said the companies did not demonstrate that approval of the transaction would serve the public interest, and called for a hearing before an administrative law judge. The agency ruled that the merger would eliminate an existing competitor in every market, create the potential for higher prices and lower service quality, and negatively impact future innovation.
In most areas reached by cable, the number of competitors would drop from three to two, the FCC said, and in nearly all other areas, the proposed transaction would create a monopoly. EchoStar declined to comment on the FCC's decision.
"The record before us irrefutably demonstrates that the proposed merger would eliminate an existing viable competitor in every market in the country. The case against approving the transfer application is particularly compelling with respect to residents of rural America who are not served by any cable operator," FCC Chairman Michael Powell said in a statement.
Decision Was Expected
In announcing the proposed merger a year ago, the companies contended that combining EchoStar and Hughes would enable more effective competition against the dominant U.S. cable and broadband providers, open more frequencies in smaller markets and speed deployment of satellite-delivered broadband services.
The FCC ruling came as no surprise, Yankee Group senior analyst Mike Goodman told Wireless NewsFactor. "From the beginning, this deal did not pass the basic tenet that you cannot sacrifice competition in one market in order to increase competition in another market," he said. "The bottom line is that if the companies combine, there is no competition in the rural markets."
While the deal is not yet dead, and the companies can file an amended application that addresses the FCC's anticompetitive concerns, the likelihood of a successful appeal is slim, Goodman said. The proposal also is under review by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Murdoch Re-Enters the Picture
Goodman suggested that Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch and his News Corp., which had offered and subsequently withdrawn a bid for Hughes, could re-enter the picture and reach a deal with GM at a much lower price due to the decline of the company's stock.
"GM still wants to sell Hughes, and it is possible that other players, such as telecom companies, could get involved in an effort to combine phone service, high-speed data and video," he said.
IDC analyst Greg Ireland said Murdoch is the most logical choice to pursue Hughes, pointing out that he has made a concerted effort to penetrate the U.S. satellite TV market and has the required resources.
