WHY A "PRETRIBULATIONAL" RAPTURE
While many reaons, and many Scriptures, could be cited as
proof of a pretribulational Rapture, there are two arguments
that stand out above all else. The two arguments are "Big
Picture" proofs that the Rapture must take place before
the seven year tribulation can begin, and these are the two that
this paper will focus on. (The second one will be in the following
newsletter.)
"Big Picture" proofs are just another way of saying
that the following arguments do NOT rest on any isolated text
of Scripture. Instead, these arguments rest on the whole of Scripture,
allowing the entire Bible to make the case. This is the most
effective way of determining the truth of any doctrine - does
the whole counsel of God back it up, or not? In the case of pretribulational
Rapture, it most certainly does.
Proof # 1 IMMINENCY
This one Bible fact alone - that Christ's return is IMMINENT,
is enough by itself to point towards only one logical position
concerning the Rapture. It must be pretribulational! Nothing
else can logically fit into prophecy. What is the biblical definition
and describes imminence as follows:
1) An imminent event is one which is always 'hanging overhead,
is constantly ready to befall or overtake one; close at hand
in its incidence.' (imminent,' The Oxford English Dictionary,
1901, V, 66.) Thus, imminence carries the sense that it could
happen at any moment. Other things may happen before the imminent
event, but nothing else must take place before it happens. If
something else must take place before an event can happen, then
that event is not imminent. In other words, the necessity of
something else taking place first destroys the concept of imminency.
2) Since a person never knows exactly when an imminent event
will take place, then he cannot count on a certain amount of
time transpiring before the imminent event happens. In light
of this, he should always be prepared for it to happen at any
moment.
3) A person cannot legitimately set or imply a date for its
happening. As soon as a person set a date for an imminent event
he destroys the concept of imminency, because he thereby is saying
that a certain amount of time must transpire before that event
can happen. A specific date for an event is contrary to the concept
that the event could happen at any moment.
4) A person cannot legitimately say that an imminent event
will happen soon. The term 'soon' implies that an events must
take place 'within a short time (after a particular point of
time specified or implied). 'By contrast, an imminent event may
take place within a short time, but it does not have to do so
in order to be imminent. As I hope you see by now, 'imminent'
is not equal to 'soon.' (1)
A.T. Pierson has noted that "Imminence is the combination
of two conditions, viz.: certainty and uncertainty. By an imminent
event we mean one which is certain to occur at some time, uncertain
at what time." (2) Thus we see that the fact that Christ
could return (but may not soon) at any moment, yet without the
necessity of signs preceding His return, requires the kind of
imminence taught by the pre-trib position and is a strong support
for pretribulationalism.
But what New Testament passages teach this truth? Those verses
stating that Christ could return at any moment, without warning
and those instructing believers to wait and look for the Lord's
coming teeach the doctrine of imminence.
- 1 Corinthians 1:7 - "awaiting eagerly the revelation
of our Lord Jesus Christ,"
- 1 Corinthians 16:22 - "Maranatha."
- Philippians 3:20 - "For our citizenship is in heaven,
from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus
Christ."
- Philippians 4:5 - "The Lord is near."
- 1 Thessalonians 1:10 - "to wait for His Son from heaven,"
- 1 Thessalonians 4:15-18 - "For this we say to you by
the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, and remain until
the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those who have fallen
asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a
shout, with the voice of {the} archangel, and with the trumpet
of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we who
are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in
the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always
be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words."
- 1 Thessalonians 5:6 - "so then let us not sleep as others
do, but let us be alert and sober."
- 1 Timothy 6:14 - "that you keep the commandment without
stain or reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,"
- Titus 2:13 - "looking for the blessed hope and the appearing
of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus;"
- Hebrew 9:28 - "so Christ.. shall appear a second time
for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly
await Him."
- James 5:7-9 "Be patient, therefore, brethren, until
the coming of the Lord.. for the coming of the Lord is at hand..
behold, the Judge is standing right at the door."
- 1 Peter 1:13 - "fix your hope completely on the grace
to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ."
- Jude 21 - "waiting anxioulsy for the mercy of our Lord
Jesus Christ to eternal life."
- Revelation 3:11; 22:7, 12, 20 ' "I am coming quickly!"
- Revelation 22:17, 20 - "And the Spirit and the bride
say, 'Come.' And let the one who hears say, 'Come.'" "He
who testifies to these things says, 'Yes, I am coming quickly.'
Amen. Come Lord Jesus."

- It is significant that all of the above passages relate to
the Rapture and speak of the Lord's coming as something that
could occur at any moment, or in other words, that it is imminent.
This is why believers are waiting for a person - Jesus Christ
- not an event or series of events such as those related to the
tribulation leading up to Christ's second advent in which He
returns to the earth and remains for His millennial reign. The
point here is simple. Logic dictates that one CANNOT believe
that Christ's return is imminent, yet also believe in a mid,
pre-wrath, or post tribulation Rapture. To believe in the first,
one must believe in the second! Again, if a person believes in
IMMINENCY that person MUST (if we are to be logical and remain
consistenly true to the Word) believe in the pre-tribulation
position.
- The imminent and literal return of Christ is as plain as
His sacrificial work on the cross, His resurrection from the
dead, and His ascension back to Heaven! And if that is accepted,
then the only logical position one can hold is that Jesus will
return for His own BEFORE the tribulation begins. It is the prophetic
scenario that fits with imminency.

- BISHOPS VOW TO STRESS ACCOUNTABILITY
- "We have to resolve these procedures already, and get
back to doing what we do so well - helping to take care of the
poor and marginalized and as spokespeople for the defense of
human life," said Robert Lynch, St. Peterburg bishop. America's
Catholic leaders - 13 cardinals and 397 bishops - gathered at
a Capitol Hill hotel Monday, accompanied by the din of protesters
outside and besieged by swarms of journalists in the lobby. Topping
their agenda: decide whether to adopt changes requested by the
Vatican regarding how the church handles allegations of sexual
abuse against priests. Tribunals meeting in secret would
gather evidence and render judgments.. American Catholics increasingly
have joined activist organizations such as Voice of the Faithful
in demanding once-secret involving church finances and personel.

- JOHN PAUL EXPANDS ROSARY TO INCLUDE CHRIST'S PUBLIC LIFE
- 'Mysteries of Light' add to meditations - Putting his personal
stamp on a Romans Catholic tradition virtually untouched in 500
years, Pope John Paul II added a new set of meditations to the
church's beloved rosary.. His move will alter the way many of
the world's estimated 1 billion catholics refect on the life
of Jesus Christ... In an apostolic letter released on the 24the
anniversay of his pontificate, John Paul also proclaimed the
next 12 months as "The Year of the Rosary." The rosary
used today was standardized by Pope Pius V in 1569 to give Catholics
a uniform interpretation of the life of Christ in response to
the Reformation. It is a form of meditation that used a string
of beads and repetitive "Hail Mary" prayers to encourage
the faithful to contemplete significant moments, know as mysteries,

on teaching that which is contrary to admonitions of Jesus Christ:
"But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the
heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their
much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father

- VATICAN SAYS MANY 'ZERO TOLERANCE' RULES MUST BE REVISED
- The Church cites conflict with its canon law. The Vatican
opposes many of the "zero tolerance" rules that U.S.
bishops fashioned in an effort to quickly remove priests accused
of sexually abusing minors, Vatican officials said the rules
need revision to achieve "harmonization" with church
law and practices, one official said.. Since January, a pedophilia
scandal has rocked the U.S. church, the wealthiest in the Catholic
world. Enraged victime and parishioners called for action and
critcized some bishops for transferring abusers from parish to
parish and making secret out-of-court settlements with victims..
Some opponents said the rules made priests vulnerable to immediate
removal without investigation and could lead some to stop working
with children out of fear of being wrongly accused. Others felt
that rules requiring the immediate reporting of accusations to

- VATICAN TO OPEN ARCHIVES TO HELP CLEAR POPE'S NAME
 Pope Pius XII was criticised as
being anti-semitic. For years the Vatican has struggled to defend
its wartime pope, Pius XII, against claims he was anti-Semitic
and didn't do enough to save Jews from the Holocaust. Now the
Vatican is taking the extraordinary step to opening part of its
secret archives ahead of schedule, in a bid to silence attacks
a man it is considering for sainthood.
- Millions of Vatican documents from the years leading up to
World War II will be available to scholars. It will be months
if not years before any findings are published. Critical books
such as the 1999 bestseller "Hitler's Pope," by John
Cromwell, have riled the Vatican, which has insisted that Pius
used quiet diplomacy that saved thousands of lives. (TTT*

- CATHOLIC PAPER PRAISES BILLY GRAHAM FOR UNITY HELP
- July/August 2003 - Billy Graham is "still preaching
that 'old-time religion'," says the headline in the Roman
Catholic weekly newspaper, Our Sunday Visitor. In the center
top of the page is a picture of the aging evangelist with the
caption: "The Protestant Pope."
Elsewhere on the full-page article are two pictures side-by-side
of Graham and Pope John Paul II. This caption states that Graham
"has called Pope John Paul II 'The moral leader of the world.'"
This recent tribute to Graham in a popular Roman periodical illustrates
the Vatican's confidence in its ecumenical steamroller.
During the dark ages, the Vatican dominated the kings of the
western world who cooperated in the murder of millions of "heretics"
during the inquisition. When the protestant reformation broke
Rome's chokehold on the nations' governments, the pope had to
change strategies.
Although in operation for nearly a century, the new tactic
was exposed to the world by the "Second Vatican Council"
in 1964. Known as an Ecumenical Council, it formulated principles
for promoting "Christian unity." These principles state
that Christ made Peter the head of the church and therefore the
first pope; anyone not in unity with Peter's successors may have
a limited grace but are "separated" from the "fullness
of grace available in the Roman Catholic Church." Catholics
everywhere are urged to "do everything possible to foster
the ecumenical movement" to bring these "separated
brethren" back in full unity with Rome.
So, instead of trying to stamp out Protestants by burning
them at the stake, Rome began saying to them, "Okay, you
may possess God's favor in a limited way but we have it all,
so come on home to Rome." The only requirement is for everyone
to submit to the pope as the head of the church.
In this unity movement, Graham has been a useful instrument.
His message has remained basically the true gospel of salvation
through Christ, but when he hands new coverts in his crusades
back to counselors from the local Catholic churches, he betrays
them into the hands of a pagan-based system that God calls a
prostitute church.
Graham's favorable appearance in a Roman Catholic newspaper
illustrates how successful Rome's ecumenical strategy has been.
Those fathers of the Reformation who were burned at the stake
rightly labeled the pope as anti-Christ and his system a pagan
cult. Today, the pope has persuaded Protestants that Catholicism
is just another denomination that worships Jesus with a different
"tradition."
Graham's contribution to Rome's new strategy has been so significant
that he was awarded the Catholic International Franciscan Award
in 1972 "for his contribution to true ecumenism." OSV
boasts, "He (Graham) is now anathema to fundamentalist Christians,
mostly because he embraced and has been embraced by the Pope
and other Catholics."
Dr. Cathy Burns has recently published a book called Billy
Graham and His Friends. In more than 700 pages she details Graham's
involvement with hundreds of leaders of this ecumenical movement.
But more than that, her book exposes the larger picture that
ecumenism is only a part of. With over 200 pages of endnotes
documenting thousands of quotes, this book ties together the
details of Satan's strategy of a one world government and a one
world religion. Burns' findings seem extreme except to Bible
believers. Bible prophecy describes an end-time push for unity
of both religion and politics.
- How tragic that there are so many "evangelical"
leaders who have been seduced by this subtle strategy of Rome.
It appears to be far more effective in stamping out their opposition

- WHO IS GOD?
- The Antichrist Express has been busy picking up passengers
along it's way. The new Bible versions have caused many in Christian
churches to fall into the trap of the devil. Kenneth Copeland
is one of them. He said: "He [Jesus] never made the assertion
that He was the most High God.. He didn't claim to be God when
He lived on earth.. Search the Gospels for yourself. If you do,
you will find what I say is true."
- The book titled Agony of Deceit chronicles the down swing
of many ministries, including Mr. Copeland's. In response to
Mr. Copeland's comment the authors cite Philippians 2:5-7. We
are told here that Jesus, "thought it not robbery to be
equal with God." All the NEW BIBLE VERSIONS say exactly
the opposite. That Jesus ".. did not consider equality with
God something to be grasped."
- God tells us in 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 that the FINAL CONFLICT
will be over WHO is GOD. We read, "Let no man deceive you
by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come
a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son
of perdition. Who oppoeth and exalteth himself above all that
is called God, or that is worshiped:so that he as God sits in
the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
- The emerging 'new' Christianity, with its substitution, a
crown for a cross, and an imitation for a new creation, is shown
to be direct result of the wording in new Bible versions. The
author of New Age Bible Versions documents thousands of words,
verses and doctrines by which new Bible versions will prepare
the apostate churches of these last days to accept the religion
of the Antichrist, even his mark, image, and Lucifer workship.

- BIBLE COLLEGE WANTS HIGHER CALLING THAN '666'
- A small Appalachian Bible college is fighting to change its
telephone number because the 666 prefix is disturbing to Christians
who recognize it as the biblical mark of the beast. "It's
the connotation. No one wants to be part of the mark of the beast,

- DAVIDIANS PURSUING LAWSUIT
- Ten years after the WACO fire, the group is appealing the
case. It was a brutal confrontation that transfixed the nation
for weeks in the spring of 1993: government agents facing off
against a fanatic cult leader and his followers in Waco, Texas.
Nearly 10 years after the fire that killed Branch Davidian leader
David Koresh and scores of his disciples, survivors and their
families still are pushing claims against the federal government..
In September 2000 in Waco, U.S. District Judge Walter Smith dismissed
the lawsuit, backing the federal contention that agents had not
used excessive force in their tear-gas assault on the compound.
Smith found that the Davidians themselves set fire that killed
nearly 80 people. Today's appeal arguments are being made on
behalf of the estates of 14 children who died in the fire, a
15-year-old who was badly burned and three parents whose children
died in the blaze and three parents whose children died in the
blaze. On February 28, 1993, federal aganets stormed the Branch
Davidian compound looking for stockpiled weapons. Four federal

- YOUTH BIBLE DRILL EXPOSES DEFECTIVE BIBLES
- In a recent email to Chick Publications, a reader suggested
a very enlightening Bible drill where the leader reads a Scripture
reference and the kids scramble to see who can find it first
and read it aloud. The winner usually gets a prize such as a
candy bar. It's a good drill to develop the kid's knowledge of
their Bibles.
- The drill is especially enlightening if the leaders uses
the following list of scriptures. None of these verses are in
the NIV, so no one with an NIV Bible will get a candy bar. The
leader could tell the group: "Those of you with King James
Version Bibles had no trouble finding these verses. Those who
had other versions, especially the NIV, got no candy because
these verses are left out of their Bibles, and moved into the
notes, where the average reader will conclude that they don't
belong in the Bible. What else besides candy do you suppose NIV
readers miss out on that the KJV readers gain?" Here is

- HINDU "HOLY WOMAN" DISPENSES HUGS
- Seattle Times: More than a thousand people in Seattle lined
up June 5, 2003 for a chance to be blessed by a woman whose misssion
is to spread a message of love and compassion. At the start of
a 10-city U.S. tour, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi, commonly called
"Amma" (Sanskrit for "mother"), came to our
fair city to dispense her "darhsan" (blessing) in the
the form of hugs.
- Among those receiving this Hindu "holy waman's"
darshan was naturalist Jane Goodall. Said Goodall, "She
has comforted with her wonderful hugging - which I experienced
yesterday - more than 21 million people. Think of it." "
I believe that she stands here in front of us," Goodall
said, "God is love in a human body." Her devotees,
organized into groups of 50, waited in an area where signs displayed
"darshan guidelines." "Tissue off any excess make-up
and / or perspiration from you face before your darshan."
Kneel close and place your hands on Amma's chair for support
(Not on Amma)." "Please do not hug Amma - let her hug
you.".. Asked what motivates her, Amma replied through her
translator Swami Amrit, "What is the motivation of a river?
It just flows." People who received Amma's hugs described
overwhelming feelings of peace and well-being.

- THE HOUSE ASSEMBLY
- Albert James Dager has been following the trend in churches
for quite a while and has warned the Body of Christ repeatedly
to tend to gather in house assemblies (private homes) for survival.
He writes: "Now that concern has grown considerably, and
we are prompted to address the need for house assemblies today,
even without regard to persecution. Even the so-called "fundamentalist"
and "evangelical" churches are taking less biblical
stances on many issues. Ecumenism - unity at the expense of truth
- becoming a predominant element of church business. Psychological
theories and manipulation have replaced ministry of the Holy
Spirit in the majority of churches, including the evangelical
(or, more properly, neo evangelical) churches. On the more bizarre
side, charismania is taking over many churhces through "spiritual
warfare" methodologies, "deliverance," and obscene
manifestations falsely attributed to the Holy Spirit.
- "If our mail is any indication, more and more brethren
are experiencing in their churches the inevitable results of
religious instiutionalism: abusive pastors, false teachings;
denominational tradition, anecdotal sermons that barely touch
on Scripture; favoritism toward the wealthy; sinful behavior
excused and even condoned, not only by favored congregants but
by pastors; unaccountability of pastors; constant fund-raising
for building projects; lack of compassion for the truly needy;
church-growth programs that such the financial, emotional and
time resources of people who feel they need to support the pastor's
"vision" ; and myriad other problems. That does not
mean that all these problems are in all the churches, but some
if not many are found in most churches today." [Editor's

- KRISHNAS TO FILE FOR BANKRUPTCY
- A dozen temples face child abuse lawsuits We've achnolwedged
in the past that there was abuse at some of the schools, but
we don't believe that innocent members .. should be threatened
with closure because of actions by some deviations. The plaintiffs
in the lawsuit are 91 former students from around the world who
allege that they were sexually, physicaly and emotionally abused
at the boarding schools, in southern California, West Virginia
and the state of Washington during the 1970s and '80s. All the
schools have since shut down. While several Roman Catholic dioceses
and Protestant churches in the United States have faced devastating
litigation over child abuse this is the first time THAT A SINGLE
ALWSUIT "threatens to shut down an entire religion,"
said Anuttama Dasa, firector of communicaitons for the International
Society for Krishna Consciousness, better known as the Hare Krishna
movement. .. The suit, filed in state court in Texas, seeks damages
from about 30 individuals and 18 Krishna-related corporations,
including roughly a dozen temples and a few businesses. The businesses
include an in-house television studio, a small publishing house,

- WHAT'S WRONG WITH HARRY POTTER?
- A new DVD now available on Jack Chick's website. With the
June release of the newest Harry Potter book, millions of children
are caught up in Pottermania, eager to read how Harry can use
the power of witchcraft to solve his problems and get control
over the things that go wrong in his life. Interviews with schoolchildren
show that they want to have power like Harry.
- Christian parents find themselves in a difficult situation.
Educators are pushing Harry Potter, gushing over how bringing
the occult into the classroom makes children more willing to
read. But Christian parents know full well that glorifying witchcraft
will make their children more willing to try it when they reach
their teens, or when they are approached in college. And this
explosion in occultic interest will produce a wave of demon-oppressed
adults. They need answers to the questions by their children,
and educators who now think that little witches are "wonderful."

- DECADES AFTER JONESTOWN, VILLAGERS WARY OF FOREIGNERS
- Strange faces have locals 'scared again'. - Jonestown, Guyana
- Razor grass, vines and a few wild daisies cover the area where
American cult leader Jim Jones urged more than 900 followers
to commit mass suicide. Few care to remember the horrors of November
18, 1978. But painful memories are reawakening with a new influx
of foreigners - U.S. missionaries and wildcat Brazilian gold
miners - to the remoted jungle outpost.
This newfound multiculturism, reminiscent of Jones' dream
of a utopian multiracial society, is not welcomed by villagers
whose collective psyche was scarred by the mass suicide. "
A lot of us who were around when Jonestown happened stopped going
to church," said Paul Adams, 49, who helped Jones clear
land for the agricultural commune where he and his followers
grew bananas and cassava and raised pigs.
- Hundreds of men, women and children followed Jones. They
built cottages, workshops and dormitories and cultivated crops
on 300 acres carved from dense tropical rain forest, 140 miles
from a capital and accesssible only by air or boat. Then a congressman
from San Francisco flew to the compound one day to investigate
allegations of abuse. As U.S. Rep. Leo Ryan was preparing to
return to the United States with 18 temple members who had wanted
to leave, he was ambushed on the airstrip. Ryan, three newsmen
and a cult defector were killed. Eleven others were injured.
Then Jones exhorted his followers to drink cyanide-laced grape
punch. Babies were killed by squirting it into their mouths with
syringes. Most adults were poisoned, some forcibly. Some were
shot by cult security guards. Hours later, 912 of Jones' followers
were dead. So was Jones, found with bullet wound to his head,

- ST. PETE ORDER CHURCH EVICTED IN GRANT MISUSE
- The city has ordered a landlord to evict a struggling, storefront
church from his building because federal funds were recently
used to refurbish the property. Federal guidelines for the grants
mandate that no religious functions can be held there to ensure
the separation of church and state, which the city says it must
enforce.
- "We'll have no place to go." said Joseph Myrick,

Warsaw (ENI). Roman Catholic church leaders in Europe have been
told there is a continent-wide crisis in vocations, with recruitment
continuing to slump at most seminaries. In a report to a meeting
in Warsaw of the (Catholic) European Vocations Service, the Rev.
Rainer Birkenmaier, a German expert on recruitment to the priesthood,
said only Italy and Poland had recorded an increase in vocations.
By contrast, seven out of
eight seminaries in traditionally Catholic Ireland had closed
over the past decade, while there had been no new recruits at
all in 2002-3 at 28 of Spain's 68 seminaries. [

the Rev. Konrad Raiser, has completed a visit to the Russian
Orthodox Church saying he was satisfied with progress in resolving
differences between the WCC's Orthodox and Protestant member
churches. The differences, over issues such as worship, theology
and decision-making procedures, had threatened several years
ago to lead the Russian Orthodox Church to withdraw from the

INDIAN CHURCHES LINE UP BEHIND POPE IN ROW OVER ANTI-CONVERSION
- New Delhi (ENI). Churches and Christian groups in India have
rallied behind Pope John Paul II who has been criticised by Hindu
fundamentalists for expressing concern about laws in some Indian
states that seek to restrict conversions. The most recent criticism
came from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), or
National Volunteer Corps, a Hindu nationalist body with links
to the leading party in India's federal coalition. Accusing the
Pope of "challenging the national sovereignty" of India,
the RSS urged the Indian government to lodge a protest with the

PHILIPPINE CATHOLIC BISHOPS SEEK FORGIVENESS FOR SEX SCANDALS
- Manila (ENI). Roman Catholic bishops in the Philippines have
apologised to their flock for the sexual misdeeds of some clergy
members and they have also announced they have "approved
in principle" a protocol governing sexual misconduct of
clerics. "Today we once again point an accusing finger at
ourselves," the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines
said in a pastoral letter. "The entire church in the Philippines
is suffering in great anguish as its integrity is raked over
the coals with cases of actual or alleged sexual misconduct of

- OSLO: THE AUTOPSY

between 1993 and May 2001 - at a time when Yasser Arafat's bloody
response to Ehud Barak's unprecedented generosity was well under
way - the essays examine the misguided premises that led to the
Oslo agreements and their sorry aftermath; premises that are
again being propounded in many quarters as the key to a peaceful
resolution of the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
The basic promise is that Oslo understandings embodied a readiness
by the Palestine Liberation Organizations to recognize the existence
of Israel. In contrast to the euphoria of the architects of Oslo
and of most of the international community, the Commentary authors
believed, as Neal Kozodoy writes in his preface, that the accord
"rested on a deep misreading of the true disposition of
the Arab side."
Their implementation, they felt, would "not enhance but
worsen Israel's physical security," and "excite the
Arab determination to achieve the eventual destruction of the
Jewish state. In short, they were afraid [Olso] was calculated
to end in disaster, to bring not peace, but war."
Writing on the eve of the signing of the Declaration of Principles
(DOP) in 1993, former Jerusalem Post editor David Bar-Illan foresaw
where the ill-fated "peace process" with the intransigent
Arafat might lead. "What until recently was quite unthinkable
- the establishment of a Palestinian state in the administered
territories, the relinquishment of the Golan Heights, and perhaps
even the division of Jerusalem into two capitals - may become
official government policy.
That Bar-Illan's prophecy came true owes much to the manner
in which Oslo was spawned and foisted on an unsuspecting Israeli
public. As we are reminded in Yigal Carmon's exploration of the
lead-up to the DOP agreement, neither the cabinet, not even prime
minister Yitzhak Rabin, were initially aware of the secret meetings
being conducted in Norway by proxies of Yost Beilin... Beilin
stated later that "the original intention .. was to put
the agreement on the table in Washington without exposing the
fact that it had been negotiated with PLO in Oslo... As expected,
Arafat occupies center stage in many of the accounts, his trademark
duplicity and truculence fully on display. Douglas Feith, in
1994, recalls Arafat's notorious speech on Jordanian television
the very day that the Declaration of Principles was signed in
Washington. In it, Israel's new-found "partner for peace"
stirred his brethren with reminders of the phased plan for Israel's
dismemberment, promising them "the establishment of national
authority on any part of Palestinian soil that is liberated or
from which the Israelis withdraw. It is the fruit of your struggle,
sacrifices, and jihad."
Arafat's dubious claim to responsible leadership in years
past was evident as well in his betrayal of the trust of his
own people.. The book's subtitle, "an autopsy," understates
it's importance. From the perspective of the present, the essays
reach out as a succession of jeremiahs forewarnings of the perils
to Israel should it ignore, or seek to fudge, the hard reality
of its neighbor's continuing malevolence.

Gays, lesbians and bisexuals were added to the citys antidiscrimination
protection law on a 4-3 bote by the city council of Orlando.
The measure added sexual orientation to the list of classes protected
by the city, including race, national origin, religion, gender,
disability, age and marital status. Under the ordinance, employers
would be prohibited from denying jobs, landlords wouldn't be
allwoed to turn away renters and public accommodations wouldn't
be able to deny service because of a person's sexual orientaton...
CHURCHES, RELIGIOUS GROUPS AND PRIVATE CLUBS would be exempt.
Businesses with more than six employees if found discriminating
against gays, lesbians or bisexuals could be fined $500 per violation.
Eight other Florida cities and counties extend antidiscrimination

and Salinas slapped backs and smiled for pictures pictures at

the three NAFTA signers looked at history with a forgiving eye.

OF NAFTA'S IMPACT on jobs, the environment, food and farmers,

into effect in 1994, billions of dollars in goods and services

companies. But middle-class and working-class families in all
three countries have paid the price. Polls show they all agree
that they were hurt by NAFTA. Florida has seen more than 100,000
jobs eliminated because of NAFTA and the WTO according to the
Economic Policy Institute.Nearly 11,000 Florida workers rely
on trade adjustment assistance, a seriously underfunded program
that give seed money and training to workers whose jobs are eliminated
by trade.

a small Baltic fishing port, offering free abortion counselling
has incensed Polish church leaders who condemned calls by activists
aboard urging the liberalisation of Poland's abortion laws. "Issues
like abortion should be left to the legislation of particular
countries," said Orthodox Archbishop Jeremiasz Anchimiuk,
president of the Polish Ecumenical Council, which groups seven
minority denominations in the country. The archbishop was speaking
to ENI after the ship, Langenort, left Polish waters. The arrival
of the ship was met with angry protests by nationalist and pro-life

- Hot on the heels of yesterday's announcement of CVS pharmacies'
plan to test "radio frequency identification" chips
comes Wal-Mart's decision to drop their test of the chips with
Gillette products. Its Brockton, Mass., store was to have been
the testbed. The Globe reports today (Gillette, Wal-Mart drop
plan for radio ID chips),
Customers at the Wal-Mart store in Brockton won't be getting
miniature radio transmitter chips with their Gillette Mach 3
razors, after all. Boston-based Gillette Co. and giant retailer
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. have
backed away from plans to test the controversial chips at the
Brockton Wal-Mart store. ''We didn't do the test, and we're not
going to,'' said Wal-Mart spokesman Tom Williams.
- Williams said the decision reflected a change in business
strategy, rather than a reaction to an Internet-based campaign
against the technology, known as radio frequency identification,
or RFID. Privacy advocates were concerned that the technology
would be used to track consumers' purchases without their knowledge
or consent. But a leader of the campaign against the technology,
Harvard University graduate student Katherine Albrecht, said
she thinks public pressure drove the decision. ''I think they're
running scared,'' said Albrecht, founder of Consumers Against
Supermarket Privacy Invasion and Numbering (CASPIAN). ''I think
they're retreating because they've realized that they've got
a real dog on their hands.''

vanished and both companies told the Enterprise there were no
plans to do a test -- with Paul Fox of Gillette actually claiming
he knew of no plans ever to do an RFID trial in the Brockton

advertising space on the foreheads of university students. Students
will have logos semi-permanently tattooed on their foreheads
and will be paid 4.20 pounds an hour (about $7) for three hours,
the amount of time they are reckoned to be 'out and about' and
thereby promoting the product."

The sad fact that most Americans and even most Christians
have been so blinded by the god of the world that they are not
even aware anything is wrong. They have become desensitized by
the barrage of repetitive assaults on the mind, morals and consciences
of every American by the media and entertainment industry. We
stand by and let them paint Christians as "haters,"
"bigots," and worse. When the word "fundamenalist"
is applied to us, they use it in the same context as the "fundamentalist"
Ayatollah Khomeni. Christians are painted as the "bad guys."
Now, since we are in the minority, we cannot even sit in our
own living rooms and watch a TV program or movie without having
almost every sense assaulted by the moral depravity and pornography
that appears on almost all our major television channels. Every
Christian fiber of our being is offended by the occultic philosophies
that are dominating radio, television, printed literature, school
textbooks - and being shoved doen our throats by our own judicial
system.
I don't know about you, but I'm tired of seeing pagans take
away our Christian heritage in the name of "diversity,"
and "multiculturalism." Christians have always been
famous for their love and charity - for taking in the poor and
tired and hungry and persecuted of all nations, God put that
special kind of love in our hearts. But we should stand up when
they get liberated and fed and then try to take away our Christian
liberty and our Christian heritage.
The Bible commands us to be a "light" those we take
in, not to partake of "their ways." WE WERE FOUNDED
AS A CHRISTIAN NATION, why are we letting God down by bowing
to pagan ideals and ideas? These people are now injoying the
benefits of a free and prosperous society - on Christian turf,
so let Christians be Christians. We must not allow those we tried
to help ROB US OF OUR FAITH AND HERITAGE. God says we must be
"hot" or "cold," not "lukewarm,"
or He will "spew us out" of His mouth. We need fellow
Christians to get "heated up" for the Lord and WIN
THE LOST, NOT LET THEM WOO US INTO PAGANISM.God always has his
remnant working tirelessly to spead and protect his Word and
our religious freedoms. Are you part of that remnant? If not,
you should be, for if the Lord doesn't come very soon, you, me,
our children and our grandchildren may face some dire events
in the near future.

- U.S. EXPECTED TO OKAY REQUEST FOR LOAN GUARANTEES

Rice was expected to give her country's response to Israel's
request for $14 billion in aid following a White House meeting
Monday with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's bureau chief Dov Weisglass,
Treasury Director-General Ohad Marani, and Israel's ambassador
to the U.S. Danny Ayalon. Marani informed Rice of Israel's economic
situation and requested $10 billion in loans and $4 billion in
special military aid, to be spread over the course of several
years.
- President George Bush is expected to quickly approve the
request with minor changes, Israeli sources said.
- The sources said the Republican congressional majority would
approve the aid within 3-6 months. After Finance Ministry director
general Ohad Marani and Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's bureau
chief Dov Weisglass submit the request, it will be handled by
both Israeli and U.S. officials who will determine the duration
of the grant and guarantees, and various technical details. The
guarantees will apparently be for five years but it is unclear
how the defense aid will be laid out...

of $2.16 billion for 2004, and is expected to approve its civil

- SUICIDE BOMBER HITS TEL AVIV TEL AVIV, by James Bennet -
Wednesday, April 30 The Palestinian parliament voted Tuesday
night in Ramallah to confirm a new government, clearing the way
for an American-backed peace plan after the Palestinian prime
minister, Mahmoud Abbas, denounced terrorism "by any party
and in all its shapes" and appealed for a "lasting
peace" with Israel.
- Hours later, underlining the fragility of every step toward
peace, a Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up outside a
seaside pub here early this morning and killed at least two other
people.
- After Mr. Abbas's speech, the Palestinian parliament overwhelmingly
approved his new government on Tuesday night, in a jubilant session
that met President Bush's condition for proceeding with a new
peace plan, known as the road map. After the suicide bombing,
the White House confirmed that it would proceed with the peace
plan, which calls for creation of a Palestinian state and a comprehensive
Arab-Israeli peace in three years.
- It was shortly after 1 a.m., not long after the White House
welcomed the legislative action and spoke of a new drive for
peace in the Middle East, that a security guard outside Mike's
Place here, which is steps from the American Embassy, confronted
a fat man he apparently thought looked suspicious, witnesses
said.
- It was the weekly "Jam Night," when musicians bring
their guitars and saxophones for impromptu sessions, and the
small bar was packed.
- Barry Gilbert, 50, was playing keyboards when he saw a bright
flash. "I thought one of the spotlights had blown,"
he said. "Then I felt a hot blast, and there was a lot of
screaming." He rushed outside and saw the wounded and dead.
"A beautiful girl, one of the waitresses, I think she lost
an arm," he said.
- Near Mr. Gilbert, the owner of the bar stood wrapped in a
brown blanket, sobbing.
- The blast tore open the front of the bar and splattered blood
on the trunk lid of a white sedan 100 feet away. Body parts lay
among the broken glass on the sidewalk, across the road from
the beach and the Mediterranean Sea, as rescue workers tended
to the wounded.
- There was no immediate claim of responsibility. The bar drew
patrons from the embassy next door, as well as many American
and British music and soccer fans. More than 30 people were wounded,
officials said.
- At the scene of the bombing, an Israeli Foreign Ministry
spokesman, David Saranga, said, "The Palestinian Authority
cannot talk peace by day, and not combat terrorism by night.
The new Palestinian government will be judged by the international
community by its actions, not by statements."
- In his speech Tuesday, Mr. Abbas, an opponent of the armed
uprising, stopped short of explicitly demanding its end, though
few legislators doubted that was what he hoped to achieve.
- Mr. Abbas called for the collection of illegal weapons and
other security measures sought by Israel, and he made public
a message he had previously delivered privately to Hamas and
other violent groups. He has urged these groups to join the political
process, insisting that each faction cannot decide for itself
what the policy should be toward Israel.
- "There will be no other decision-making authority except
for the Palestinian Authority," Mr. Abbas said. "On
this land and for this people, there is only one authority, one
law, and one democratic and national decision that applies to
us all."
- Hamas leaders say they reject this approach and refuse to
disarm. Mr. Abbas's own faction, Fatah, is conducting internal
discussions with its armed wing, Al Aksa Martyrs Brigades, Fatah
leaders said.
- It was not clear if, in condemning terrorism, Mr. Abbas included
attacks on Israeli soldiers and settlers in the West Bank and
Gaza. Palestinians overwhelmingly consider such violence legitimate
resistance to occupation, but Israel calls it terrorism.
- Israeli security officials said terrorists had never stopped
trying to conduct suicide bombings, and today's attack might
not have been timed to undermine the new government. But it graphically
expressed the challenge facing Mr. Abbas.
- Israel insists that before its forces stand down, Mr. Abbas
and his security chief, Muhammad Dahlan, must act to end violence.
