Someone approached me to chat on Internet. He told me that he had just left Masonry two weeks ago and that his Grandfather is a Christian Mason of 91 years of age. I told him that someone should witness to him, that he must renounce Masonry before he dies or he will be in bad straights. He is most likely still alive because God is waiting on that to happen. He assured me that he would tell his mother what I said. I offered to send him a book free but he said his grandfather "doesn't read", he only watches television. How often have heard that before.
As we chatted back and forth for several days, he asked me to visit a website "The Shepherd's Chapel," which is Arnold Murray's site. I had not heard of him. The surfer was impressed with him and thought he was a safe preacher to listen to, because he supposedly goes through the Bible verse by verse. I noticed in our conversation that the surfer had various hangups about the Word of God which concerned me. One was about the 144,000 Jews would not necessarily be Jews but Jews and Gentiles mixed, which is not Scriptural. Another comment was about Eve's first baby Cain conceived by Satan by eating of the apple tree. "That was really Satan," he said, "and that is why Cain was evil." There was more that he said that was disturbing.
The relationship ended with him slipping me an article about a post-tribulation Resurrection/ Rapture, which also had some major errors in it. We discussed it but to no avail and I dismissed the encounter. We received MacGregor Ministry's newsletter, two days later, which explained why this young man was not Scriptural. I sent him the article about the Shepherd's Chapel and Murray's teachings and he wasn't too happy. He accused the ministry of not knowing what they were doing. I told him the MacGregor ministry is highly respected, of long standing and appropriate in the field of discernment. The truth came out. What he really wanted, for me to get out of my ministry. He said that God would not want us to go up against ministries of the Gospel, that I should get out of the business since I had been deceived for many years, I was probably still deceived and that I should teach pure Scripture like Arnold Murray. I told him that once again he was not Scriptural, that women are not to teach men. Discernment ministries are giving women a role as sheep dogs, keeping the herd running in the right direction.
The article in the January issue of MacGregor Ministries was about Arnold Murray of the Shepherd's Chapel - Cult or Christian? I couldn't believe my eyes. So God had his own reason for bringing this man to my website after all. If he had indeed converted to Christianity, then he is being led down the wrong path just like we were after Mormonism. Satan doesn't let go easy. Satan has an unbelievable number of disciples, and many former cult members don't know they are still running under his influence after they get out. Why, because they are still relying on other men to interpret the Bible to them. The Holy Spirit wants to teach us personally by means of studying the Bible ourselves. It is hard work but well worth it. Another person cannot possibly provide that understanding of the whole body of knowledge of the Word. Without that it doesn't really register.
Lorri MacGregor writes: "Early-morning viewers in Canada are regaled with a powerful preacher using plain language and frequent insults to present his brand of the "gospel". He is on TV in the USA also as well as the Internet.
"So, who is Arnold Murray anyway, and should Christians be listening to him? He appears very patriotic, usually displaying the American flag behind his desk. This is, in reality, a prop for his message that the white, Anglo-Saxons are the chosen race. Worldwide Church of God watchers may remember that this was a favorite doctrine of the late Herbert W. Armstrong, called "British-Israelism". The World-wide Church of God has since denounced this theory after careful research, but it is still alive and well through ministries like "The Shepherd's Chapel", and offshoot, dissident groups of the WCG. "Basically, it teaches that America and Great Britain are the ten lost tribes of the children of Israel, therefore being the now chosen people of God. Trouble is, the "ten lost tribes" were never lost, according to the Bible, never mind traveling first to England and then immigrating to the USA. The doctrine is just thinly veiled racism in its ugliest form. "Christians know that ".. God is not one to show partiality, but in EVERY NATION the man who fears Him and does what is right, is welcome to Him". (Acts 10:34,35) So, since God doesn't discriminate on the basis of skin color, neither should we. A favorite charge of Arnold Murray is that Christian, orthodox, teachers "don't know their Bible". Well, neither does Mr. Murray! As with all cult groups, we find Mr. Murray denying the basic, biblical doctrines of the Christian Church. "For example, he denies the Trinity, the Bible teaching that the One, True God of the Bible revealed Himself in Three Persons, (not 3 gods!), as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. There is ample proof of this straight from the Bible. All cult groups seek to downgrade Jesus Christ while exalting themselves. Mr Murray is no exception. "One of his favorite heresies, which I find mind boggling, is the false teaching of the "serpent's seed". This strange doctrine teaches that, in the garden of Eden, Eve had sexual relations with the serpent Satan the Devil. This resulted in a child, Cain. (Abel is conceded to be Adam's child). Then, all of the descendants of Cain are branded as "seeds of the serpent" (the nonwhite races). He accuses the present-day Jews of actually being the descendants of Cain, calling them "Kenites". Since, he believes, these were the ones who crucified Christ, they are the evil "Serpent's seed". "His followers, of course, are the true seed of God, Abel's descendants. He also gives himself the designation of God's exclusive end-time messenger for the world. Neo-Nazi groups just lap up this stuff! As expected, hell is denied, as is the rapture teaching. Avoid this bigoted man and, better yet, complain to your TV station!" (MacGregor Ministries, #47 January 1999, Box 454 Metaline Falls WA 99153-0454 (250) 352-9327 www.macgregorministries.org)
